PANAJI: The monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will begin from July 18 and state Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has issued an order to this effect, an official said on Saturday.
The governor issued the order on Friday, he said. ”The governor has called the monsoon session from July 18. It is likely to be of 18 working days and culminate in the first week of August,” the senior official from state legislature said. The exact duration of the session would be decided in the Business Advisory Committee that will meet soon, he said.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said that going by the past records, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government may curtail the session by issuing some last-minute corrigendum.
”Let the government show courage by facing the Opposition in the House for 18 days,” he said.
Alemao said that he will soon call for a meeting of the opposition to chalk out common strategy and floor management during the session. During the session, the opposition would question the Pramod Sawant government on issues like non-resumption of mining operations, diversion of Mhadei river water, unemployment and corruption, the Congress leader said.
